Angular Version History

3 active, 10 end-of-life. 13 versions tracked.

Angular releases a new major version every 6 months, in May and November. This predictable cadence has been maintained since Angular 6 (2018). Each major version is actively supported for 12 months and receives an additional 6 months of LTS (critical fixes and security patches only).

Recommendation

For new projects, use Angular 21. It includes signal-based reactivity, enhanced hydration for SSR, and the esbuild-based build system.

Angular Support Policy

Each Angular major version gets 18 months of total support: 6 months of active support (bug fixes and new features via minor releases), followed by 12 months of long-term support (only critical bug fixes and security patches). After that, the version is completely unsupported.

What You Need to Know

Angular 18 and older are end-of-life. Angular 19 reaches EOL in May 2026.

Angular 21 is the latest stable release (21.2.1 released March 2026).

Angular 20 is also fully supported through November 2026.

The Angular CLI uses esbuild by default (since Angular 17), making builds 2-4x faster than webpack.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often does Angular release new versions?
Angular ships a new major version every 6 months, in May and November. Minor releases come out roughly monthly during the active support phase. This cadence has been consistent since Angular 6.
Which Angular version should I use in 2026?
Use Angular 19 or 20 for new projects. Angular 19 includes stable signal-based reactivity and improved SSR. Angular 20 (May 2025) will add further refinements. Both are well within their support windows in 2026.
How long is each Angular version supported?
Each major version gets 18 months of support: 6 months of active development with bug fixes and features, then 12 months of LTS with only critical fixes and security patches. After 18 months, it's completely unsupported.
Can I skip Angular versions when upgrading?
You can, but it's not recommended. The Angular team provides ng update schematics that automate migration one major version at a time. Skipping versions means you miss intermediate migration steps and the schematics won't apply correctly. Upgrade sequentially for the best experience.
